General Information on Using Roads.
Interrupting Traffic Flow

No driver may hinder or interrupt the free flow of traffic on a public road

Sports and Racing

Drivers may not conduct a race or sports meeting on a public road without the consent of the MEC of the province or the relevant local authority, or with a modified vehicle that does meet the specifications of the manufacturer and/or SABS.

Dragging or Spinning Wheels

You are not allowed to drag or spin the wheels of your vehicle on any public road, unless it is in an emergency.

Chocks & Shoes

You are not allowed to use chocks or shoes between the wheels and the surface of the road.

Damage to Public Roads

You are not allowed to perform any action that will cause damage to any road.

Reckless, Negligent or Inconsiderate Driving

You may not drive in any manner that disregards the safety or rights of other road users or property.

Unauthorized Use

No person may drive or tamper with a vehicle without the permission of the owner of such vehicle.

Changing Engine or Chassis Numbers

No person may make any changes to the engine or chassis numbers of any vehicle without the written permission from traffic authorities. Such vehicle may not be driven on any road.

Driving Under the Influence

You may not be in control of, or behind the controls of a motor vehicle with the engine running if the alcohol level in your blood or breath exceeds the permissible level by law, or if you are under the influence of any narcotic drug.

Alcohol Levels Must be Less Than:

i. 0.05g per 100 ml of blood for an ordinary driver (0.24 mg per 1000 ml of breath specimen)

ii. 0.02g per 100 ml of blood in the case of a professional driver (0.10 mg per 1000 ml of breath specimen).

Refusing Blood Samples

You may not refuse to have blood samples taken when ordered to do so by a traffic or police officer.
