Do Not Overtake
Prohibition by Roadsign or Marking
Never overtake when a roadsign or marking prohibits this action.
At a Pedestrian Crossing
Never overtake any vehicle that has stopped at a pedestrian crossing.
Oncoming Traffic from the Front
Never overtake any vehicle where you need to move to the right hand-side of the road into oncoming traffic.
Shoulder or Verge
Never overtake any vehicle where you will drive on the shoulder or verge of the road.
Blind Rise or Curve
Never overtake a vehicle on a blind rise, curve or any other place where your view of the road ahead is limited, or there could be oncoming traffic you cannot see.
Overtaking Another Vehicle
Overtaking on a Narrow Road
When you overtake another vehicle travelling in the same direction on a narrow road, pass on the right-hand side of that vehicle and keep a safe distance from it. Pass the vehicle and safely move back into the left lane.
Overtaking a Stationary Bus
When overtaking a stationary bus, always be sure to look out for passengers boarding or leaving the bus.
Overtaking on the Left
The vehicle in front is turning right
You may only overtake a vehicle to the left, if the vehicle in front of you is turning right or has indicated its intention to turn right.
On a One-Way Road
You may overtake a vehicle on the left, if the road you are traveling on is a one-way road.
The Road is Wide Enough
You may overtake to the left if the road is wide enough for two or more lanes of traffic to move in the same direction, or is marked with traffic lanes for vehicles traveling in the same direction.
Instructed by Traffic or Police Officer
You may overtake to the left when you are instructed to do so by a traffic or police officer.

When you are being overtaken, do not accelerate your vehicle. Move to the left to allow the other vehicle to pass safely.
